Free Consultation

The Free Consultation is where we’ll discuss the writer’s goals, interests, learning style, current challenges, and what they hope to accomplish. From there, I’ll create a completely free, personalized Writing Trial Lesson so they can experience the Wordsmith approach firsthand. After the lesson, they’ll receive a digital Wordsmith Journal introducing the different abilities writers develop and practical tools that writers of all kinds use to plan, organize, research, draft, revise, and create. It also includes information about the different types of writing I teach in case the student wants to explore new interests or other areas of writing. The Journal also includes personalized Read, Watch, Play recommendations. These are books, articles, movies, shows, games, and other examples of strong writing chosen around the student’s interests, age, and reading level. They are not homework. They’re meant to give students enjoyable examples of writing they can learn from, whether that means noticing great dialogue in a game, storytelling in a movie, structure in a novel, or clear communication in an article. Recommendations are always selected to be appropriate for the individual student, and I will never intentionally recommend content that is unsuitable for their age or maturity level. After the trial lesson, there are several ways we can continue depending on what the writer needs. They can book an individual session for help with a specific assignment, essay, test, application, or project; schedule a short series of sessions to work toward a particular goal; meet regularly for general writing improvement and school support; or follow a longer-term Custom Tutoring Plan built around their goals, interests, schedule, and learning needs. Families can choose the amount and type of support that makes the most sense for the writer, whether that means one focused session, a few sessions when extra help is needed, or ongoing tutoring throughout the semester.
