Many students know what they want to say but struggle to put it into a clear order. I break the process into manageable steps and help students understand what each part of their writing is supposed to do. The goal is not only to improve one assignment. It is to give them a process they can use the next time writing feels overwhelming.
High School Writing Support
High school writing asks students to do more than fill a page. They need to understand difficult prompts, make a focused point, use evidence well, and explain why their ideas matter. My tutoring focuses on the thinking behind strong writing. I help students slow down, make better decisions, and see how each part of an essay supports the larger argument. Over time, they become less dependent on templates and more confident handling unfamiliar assignments.
College Application Essay Support
A strong college essay should sound like the student, not a parent, a tutor, or an AI tool. I help students find a topic that reveals something real about how they think and what matters to them. From there, we shape the essay together while protecting their ownership of the story and the final language. AI can be useful, but it cannot make every important writing decision for you. I teach older students, college students, and developing professionals how to use AI in ways that support their thinking instead of replacing it. That means learning when a tool is helpful, when its suggestions are weak, and how to keep the final work accurate and recognizably your own.
Journalism and Article Writing
Journalism is a strong fit for students who are curious about real topics and enjoy asking questions. It also teaches skills that transfer well to school research and everyday communication. I show students how to move from an interesting idea to a clear and reliable article. They learn how to research with a purpose, find the strongest information, and separate fact from opinion. Just as importantly, they learn how to make accurate writing engaging to read.
Writing for Games
Games contain far more writing than many students realize. Characters need dialogue. Players need clear objectives. Worlds need histories, rules, and details that feel connected. Game writing also presents a unique challenge: the audience is participating in the experience. I help students think about what the player knows, what choices they can make, and how the writing supports the gameplay rather than interrupting it.
Technical and Documentation Writing
Technical writing is not about making simple ideas sound complicated. It is about making complicated ideas easier to understand and use. I teach students to think from the reader’s point of view. What does the reader need to know first? What might confuse them? What information should be easy to find later? This kind of writing builds precision and organization while showing students how writing functions in technology, science, engineering, games, and the workplace.
